Prep/Senior DivisionUpdatedMonday November 7, 2016 byNWLL.
BACKGROUND: NWLL’s Prep Division was established to offer our players the opportunity to continue playing baseball as teenagers. NWLL provides a competitive playing environment and experienced, professional coaching. Players develop a deeper understanding of rules, develop their baseball skills on a larger field, and compete against experienced opponents. The Prep/Senior division offers players a great opportunity to advance their baseball careers. The Prep/Senior division also supplements participation on school teams, and does not conflict with school schedules. Most games are on weekends and practices are run at a later time during weekdays.
In 2017, we are attempting to expand the number of aged level teams, and with that there’s always room for additional coaching help. If you have experience or have the desire to work with experienced coaches at this level. Please contact the prep commissioner at: firstname.lastname@example.org
INTERMEDIATE: NWLL sponsors Prep teams for all players turning age 13. These teams play on 70-foot diamonds, against competitive teams from other Little Leagues around the city. Regular baseball rules are applied: leading, stealing, pick-offs, etc., and as a part of the growing experience, some of the games will be played on a 90 foot (i.e., full regulation) diamond. The Intermediate program has been a great success for many years, because of the dedication and enthusiasm of the players and coaches. NWLL’s Spring 2014 Prep-13/Intermediate team was crowned ‘CHAMPIONS’ of DC’s first Intermediate Division season.
JUNIORS: The 2017 SPRING season will offer two levels of baseball for the 14 & 15 aged players. The success of the LL-Intermediate Division in 2014, has moved the leagues in DC to form a LL-Juniors Division. This division will be for players league aged 14 Only, and will play on the 90 foot diamond. The 14 only team will be selected at tryouts.
The combined Juniors team (14-15) will participate in the RBBA League, in Rockville. This team will be made up of players that are aged 15 and under, players that are 14 and were not selected to the (14 only) team, and any player that wishes to play more baseball. The games are usually twice a week, one weekday, and one weekend game.
SENIORS: NWLL also fields Senior teams that play on a full-sized 90-foot diamond against strong competition from the District/Maryland/Virginia areas. Senior play allows potential high school players to gain additional experience and to compete against teams of varying skill levels. It is also a great opportunity to get extra reps toward mastering position skills. Practices are on Sundays with a batting session during the week.
TRYOUTS: Spring 2017 tryouts for players aged 13-16 will occur in late February or early March. Because it is difficult to predict the number of players who will register for the different divisions, we will communicate more specific time and locale details closer to the tryout date to all registered players.
